I’m 15 years old. I’m going to be one of the bridesmaids for my cousin’s wedding. I’ve never been a bridesmaid before so I’m really nervous as I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.
Well, here are some of my other questions…
1.) When the wedding ceremony is actually happening, do I just stand at the front with all the other bridesmaids? Is that all I’m supposed to do or do I have to do something else?
2.) At the reception, am I supposed to do anything else? Do I have to give a speech or anything? Because I have a huge fear of talking in front of lots of people (a bit ironic since I want to be a singer..) So will I have to do anything like that?
3.) Is there anything else I have to do?
Thank you so much!
1. All you will need to do is stand at the front of the church with the other bridesmaids. The bride and groom will almost certainly have a rehearsal dinner the day before the wedding, so you’ll know exactly when to walk and where to stand.
2. You will probably NOT be asked to speak at the reception (sigh of relief, right?) – generally, toasts are given by the maid of honor, best man, father of bride and father of groom, and sometimes the bride and groom themselves.
2a. Some receptions feature a "wedding party dance", in which the bridesmaids and groomsmen dance together for one song. This tradition is getting less and less common, but if it’s something you’re anxious about, you should talk to your cousin.
Don’t be nervous. Unless the bride has asked you to do something in particular, your "duties" are pretty simple. Besides being in the wedding and attending the reception and the rehearsal dinner, you might help the bride get ready (those dresses are hard to get into by yourself). You may also get to do fun stuff, like having your hair and makeup done on the day of the wedding. If you have any questions about the expectations, you should get in touch with the bride, her mom, or the maid of honor – they will be happy to answer your questions.

I don’t know your sister or her husband-to-be. How can I help you talk about her?
Give us an example of what you want to say, and we can help you to improve it.
This coming weekend I’ll be my sisters Maid of Honor. I’m not very sentimental and my creative writing skills are almost non-existent. I’m looking for ideas for my MOH toast. I wanted to base it around the joining of two families…as my sister has 3 children and her fiance has one already.
Suggestions??
I did a web search for "Maid of Honor toasts" and got quite a few choices. You might do that too and see if some work for you. Good luck
