my daughter is a bridesmaid and is totally dumbfounded when it comes to speeches. The bride actually told her she better have one (which i thought was very bold) so any suggestions?

keep it short already

I have a project due and I have to pretend I am at my sister’s wedding giving a commemorative speech to her. What sort of introduction should I start it off that is appropriate for the occasion?

I love you and I wish you the best, awwww

Does this sound ok? I’ve known the bride for years, but we haven’t been "close" friends so I don’t really have any fond memories..

Good evening everyone. For those of you who do not know me, my name is Megan and I have the honor and privelage of being the maid of honor. I met (bride) in 4th grade and we’ve been friends ever since. I’ve noticed that both (groom) and (bride) have strong faith in their families, friends, and God, which is a great foundation to build a marriage onto. I wish you both nothing but the best. Ladies and Gentlemen, I’d like to offer a toast: To (groom) & (bride), and a wonderful life together!

doesn’t seem like quite enough
can you think of an example of when they showed they have strong faith in these things?
how have you known her since 4th grade and not made a memory or two?
anyway…i’d add some detail, but it sounds good so far :)

Hi my friend is getting married and I am the maid of honor. I am so scared to give a speech and I cant think of anything to write.
Anyone have any pointers for me? Lol. Also does anyone have any suggestions on how not to be so nervous? Thank you.

Just get up, say congratulations, thank them for having you as their maid of honor and read something beautiful.

Make sure you find a poem or something similar that fits the couple as closely as possible.

You’ll be fine, remember EVERYONE hates getting up and talking and they’re mostly just sitting there thinking how glad they are that it’s you instead of them. It’ll all be over in a few seconds.

I am getting married April 2011.I have chosen so far 2 bridesmaids, one of my best friends and my FH sister. I want to choose one more. Another girl I am really close too. I have been engaged for nearly a year (we were overseas and and just got back recently). So that’s fine, however I have another really close friend who lives overseas. I am pretty certain she is expecting to be a bridesmaid, however much I love her, I just don’t want her to be one, I want her to be involved with lots of things, like I want her to do a speech and a reading at the church, lots of things. How do I tell her this ? what is my reason for not wanting her? She is the best and I love her and one very important person in my life… and as much as everyone says it doesn’t matter, it’s an important day and u can hurt some people…
When we were 15 we used to say that we would have each other, that was 10 years ago how do I tell her? What reasons can I give her?
I appreciate your help.

i had this same problem – unfortunately – i did have a rather large wedding party and did not include my closest friend – we sat and talked and i explained that i didn’t want to offend her but i felt that i had chosen the others not just because i wanted everyone that is close to me but also because i felt "obligated" and partially because i thought if i didn’t they would be mad – i really think they would have- but i explained to my friend that i needed her truthfully to be there just for me apart from the chaos and stress of planning a wedding even though i did want her to help too- she was thrilled! she did a reading was able to enjoy everything as a guest without having to dish out money for a matching dress she probably wouldn’t wear again, was a wonderful dose of sanity for me and looking back was probably more involved than anyone since i turned to her for so much.
be honest and good luck!
congrats too!

It’s for my super amazing grandparents.
I don’t know what to talk about thought.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Think of a way they have both touched your life or helped you out and put that down. It could be something from early childhood even. It’s a way to give a great tribute to their parenting and make it really specific. Make it something they will remember. Something that shows you were paying attention to something they said. They will love that.

I’m already crying as I imagine you speaking!

This coming weekend I’ll be my sisters Maid of Honor. I’m not very sentimental and my creative writing skills are almost non-existent. I’m looking for ideas for my MOH toast. I wanted to base it around the joining of two families…as my sister has 3 children and her fiance has one already.

Suggestions??
lol. True…October I made a short and sweet toast for my best friend. I wanted something different for my sister, but maybe I’ll go short and sweet again.

Go with something short and sweet. When I was a maid of honor at my friend’s wedding, I found a list of old quotes of advice about a happy marriage. They were a little bit funny and i ended with a funny one. Look up "marriage advice quotes" on google and pick about 4-5 of those or just look up "wedding toast" and pick something short. It doesnt’ have to be sappy, and most people just hope you get it over with soon so they can set down their glass of champagne.
