my daughter is a bridesmaid and is totally dumbfounded when it comes to speeches. The bride actually told her she better have one (which i thought was very bold) so any suggestions?

I suggest that your daughter do her own speech, Mommy dearest. You need to let her grow up and take responsibility for herself…..Back off!

With the attitude she approached your daughter with it is the same she will approach the marriage…. Maybe she should speak about how wonderful the hubby to be is????

Tell your daughter to find a poem that fits the occasion! There are many beautiful poems out there for weddings!

    wow those answers were mean!

I suggest that the both of you (since she’s a bit unsure) sit down and write out a short speech first outlining the two girls’ friendship and maybe put in a few anecdotes of the fun times they’ve had, and what your daughter has always loved about the bride. Then in the next part, describe the life your daughter wishes for the new couple and then finish the speech by wishing them happiness and offering a toast. (i think that would be proper etiquette)

The bride is probably just really stressed and wants everything to be perfect so she’s micromanaging everything. As long as the speech is heartfelt, it doesn’t matter how long or eloquent it is. The bride will be calmer once the actual wedding ceremony is over and its time for the reception.

May your voyage through life be as happy and as free
As the dancing waves on the deep blue sea

May your love be added, may it never be subtracted, may your household multiply, and may your hearts never be divided!!

(Groom), take (Bride)’s hand and place your hand over hers. Now, remember this moment and cherish it… because this will be the last time you’ll ever have the upper hand!"

May a flock of blessings light upon thy back. (Shakespeare – Romeo and Juliet)

Here’s to the groom with bride so fair,
And here’s to the bride with groom so rare!
Here’s to marriage: one soul in two bodies.

Here’s to the prettiest, here’s to the wittiest, here’s to the truest of all who are true, here’s to the neatest one, here’s to the sweetest one, here’s to them in one – here’s to you!

But rich or poor, quick or slow,
May you know nothing but happiness
    From this day forward.

For each petal on the shamrock this brings a wish your way.
Good health, good luck, and happiness for today and every day.

Health and a long life to you.
    Land without rent to you.
A child every year to you.
And if you can’t go to heaven,
May you at least die in Ireland.

    Here’s to a sweetheart, a bottle, and a friend.
The first beautiful, the second full, the last ever faithful.

    Here’s to health and prosperity,
To you and all your posterity.
And them that doesn’t drink with sincerity,
That they may be damned for all eternity!

Here’s to my bride: she knows everything about me, yet loves me just the same.

Have her talk about a funny or fond memory of herself and the bride and groom. Pick a story appropriate for all the guests attending the wedding so that they can appreciate it…and…talk about why the bride and groom were made for eachother or make such a great couple. Keep it short, simple, and nice..with a little humor.
